Esther L. (Burnham) Brown died peacefully February 9, 2007 at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center Nursing Home.

Esther was born November 18, 1917 to Maysie and Ivy Burnham at Naper, Nebraska. She began her life in Naper, Nebraska. Later she moved to South Dakota. She graduated from the 8th grade at Springview Bad Nation School on May 17, 1929.

On June 11th, 1936 she married Vernon E. Brown at Mount Ayr, Iowa in Ringgold County. To this union 10 children were born. Vernon died January 14, 1959 at home.

On September 8, 1962 at Sturgis, SD she married JH Draine and moved to Wood, SD with the younger children.

After moving to Wood, Esther was employed as a cook at Wood Public School and as an Avon Representative. She was very successful.

Esther was active in many organizations in her community. She was a charter member of McBride Post #19 American Legion Auxiliary. Esther was on the board of directors at Southern Plains Mental Health Center in Winner.

Due to poor health Esther entered the Elder Inn in Winner, SD in the summer of 2000 later entering the Winner Regional Healthcare Center Nursing Home on May 12, 2004.

Esther is survived by, Iva Hight (Clifford) of White River, SD, Victor (Linda) of Estherville, IA, Irene Bordon (Jim) of Thompson Falls, Montana, Pat (Diane) of Winner, SD, Robert (Linda) of Spearfish, SD, Dale(Juli) of Millboro, SD, Cora Lookabill (Rodney) of Wood, SD, one brother-in-law, Darrell Engel, Winner, SD and one sister-in-law Nelda Brown, White River, SD and one brother James Burnham of Wood, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ivy and Maysie Burnham, her husbands Vernon and James, one daughter Maysie Engel, 2 sons Virgil and Veldon, 2 granddaughters, 1 grandson and 1 great grandson and 3 sisters and 4 brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the White River Community Events Center. Burial will be in the White River Cemetery.
