A son of Joseph W. and Gilly Rodehaver, he married Elda Rigdon on December 25, 1927 at Washington, Illinois. The couple's children: Joseph W. III, Champaign; Joanne Spitz, Champaign; and Dixie Lee Bielenberg, Decatur, Illinois. After the death of his first wife, he married Audrey Fernandez, October 7, 1992, at Champaign. She died January 20, 1995. A graduated from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. he was a salesman for Armour and Company and later joined Swift and Company of Columbia, Missouri. From there he travelled to Rochester, New York and then to Decatur, Illinois and opened a new territory in Champaign, Illinois. A veteran of WWII, he served with special services attached to the Fourth Marine Division. Aftrer the war, he went into the frozen food business operating Zero House HOme of Frozen Foods, in Champaign, Illinois. After many years, he sold thjis company, moved to Decatur where he managed the Tolley Supermarkets. He was then director of operations of Midwest Grocery Company for four years, before joining the IGA national headquarters. He managed and diredcted the Foods for Seniors program which delivered groceries to as manyh as 180 senior citizens, twice monthly. In 1989 he was the recipient of the News Gazette Hero Award. An active Free Mason, he was a member of Western Star Lodge No. 240 A.F. and A.M.
