Death Calls Isham Smith

Isham N. Smith, identified with the legal fraternity of Portland and other northwest cities for the last 47 years, died early Thursday in a Yakima hospital following a heart attack, an Associated Press dispatch from the city reported.

Mr. Smith went to Yakima from Portland four years ago to handle legal business in connection with the estate of the late A. E. Larson of the Washington city.

Widow, Daughter Survive

Surviving relatives include the widow, and a daughter, Mrs. M. Morton Taubman, Portland.

Mr. Smith was born in Salem [Marion County, Illinois] in 1868 and graduated with the University of Oregon law school's class of 1892, the year he was admitted to practice in this state. For a time after 1895 he practiced in Wallace, Idaho, where he became recognized as a specialist in mining litigation, and he then returned to Portland.

Heart Attack Suffered

For some time Mr. Smith shared offices with John F. Logan, and for ten years prior to moving to Yakima he was a member of the law firm of Platt, Platt, Smith & Black.

Reports from Yakima said Mr. Smith had put in a busy day Wednesday and appeared to be in quite good health. He suffered a heart attack soon after dinner and died shortly after 3 A. M. Thursday.
