College and secondary school teacher. Taught at Lowell High School in San Francisco, CA from 1927 to the 1950's. He came from a missionary family who were sent to China in the 19th Century, so lived a good part of his life in China, and worked there as a university teacher. Along with his wife and children they fled that country in 1927 due to civil unrest. The 1940 census showed the family living at 1019 Ashbury St. in San Francisco, after which the family settled in a house on 37th Ave across from Golden Gate Park . Their 4 children all graduated from UC Berkeley.
