Capt. Elisha Bethea, of Marion County, South Carolina, was born Feb 28, 1807, the son of Phillip Bethea and Rachel Cochrane, and passed into rest, April 5, 1886. At the age of 21 he was married to Miss Martha A. Walter. He was a man of sterling worth and integrity. Note that his middle name (Cochoran) is often spelled Cochrane.

Children not listed as siblings are Alice who married Capt D Asbury Smith. Alice died 3 Aug 1929 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama; James A. Bethea (1836-1837); and Pickett Pearce Bethea who died in service to the C.S.A.
