Paul E. Young, 84, of 28 Reno Lane unexpectedly passed away the afternoon of Aug. 27, 2007, at his home. Born Aug. 31, 1922, in New Castle, he was a son of the late Everett and Martha Graham Young. He married the former Lucille Maxwell on Aug. 17, 1943. They were married 64 years. She passed in November 2013. Mr. Young worked for West Penn Asphalt in West Pittsburg for 20 years and retired in 1984. He ran the asphalt plant. He also had worked for Piatt and Craig Coal Co. in Portersville as a machine operator and mechanic. He was a graduate of the former East Brook High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a staff sergeant with the combat engineers. He was at Omaha Beach on D-Day, was at the Battle of the Bulge and his unit captured an important Rhine River bridge. He belonged to the American Legion. Mr. Young loved working on machinery. He was a lifetime farmer and raised beef cattle. He was a charter member of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he was a former elder. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, two sons and daughters-in-law,four brothers and sisters-in-law, four sisters and two brothers-in-law, and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Roth, Jean Travaline and Betty Grieve; and a brother, Richard Young.

Paul died from injuries sustained when his garden tractor fell on him at his residence. It was a freak accident. He was 84.
