Mary Ruth Shaffer, 67, of Hanover died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 24, 1939, in McRoberts, Ky., the daughter of Warren and Lora Epperson Auxier. She earned a bachelor of science degree in business management from Indiana University Southeast. She was a retired accountant, having worked for Louisville Bedding Co. in Louisville, Ky., for several years and at Rexnord in Madison. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Richard B. Shaffer, whom she married Sept. 5, 1964; two daughters, Mary Ann Propes of Columbus and Lisa Ard of Sioux City, Iowa; three sons, Gary Shaffer and Ed Shaffer, both of Hanover, and Rich Shaffer of Meadville, Pa.; one brother, Maurice Auxier of Hanover; one sister, Madonna Ferguson of New Orleans, La.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Joe Auxier, who died May 21, 2007.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vail-Holt Funeral Homes Hilltop Chapel. Burial will be in New Prospect Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Huntington's Disease Society of America, Indiana Chapter, P.O. Box 2101, Indianapolis, IN 46206. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
