Newton grew up in Gilead, Tolland Co., but lived in East Hartford most of his adult life. Newton was a teamster and a laborer in a lumber yard.
He married Clara Roena Stowell on Sep. 20, 1888 in Hartford. They had four children together: Grayce Belle in 1888, Olive Cornelia in 1891, Howard Newton in 1894 and Reginald Lane in 1898. The baby died at seven months old. Newton and Clara were later separated.
Newton fell and broke his back right before he died.
He had seven grandchildren and 59 additional descendants as of late 2007.
Thanks to Norma Reed Moulton for so kindly giving me the photo of my great-great-grandfather. It is very precious.
