Abbie Jane Stevens was born in Fulton County, Illinois, October 8, 1848 and passed away December 2, 1925, having lived 76 years, 1 month and 24 days. When she was 8 years of age she moved to a farm near Bushnell where she obtained her education in the public schools and developed the qualities of womanhood which were so noticeable in later life. In …….married to W. W. Culp and their home was on a farm near Macomb but feeling a desire for better quarters they moved on a farm near Shenandoah, Iowa where they lived nine years. On account of ill health they moved farther west and purchased a farm in Nebraska where they remained three years then came back to McDonough County, living near Bushnell, then purchasing a farm west of Macomb. About 23 years ago they retired from active farm live and moved to 728 West Calhoun Street, Macomb where she passed away. Three of the children born to them died in infancy. The sons and daughters remaining are William H. Culp, Macomb; Mrs. Agnes Graham, Carthage; Charles E. Culp, Los Angeles, Calif.; Otis Culp, Rushville, Ill.; Mrs. Maude Bowen, Columbus, Montana; Carl Culp, Wyoming, Frank Culp, Macomb, and Mrs. Leona Watson, Pleasantville, N.Y. A daughter, Mrs. Mary Sinnett, Macon, Mo., died April 18, 1925. There is a sister, Mrs. William Walters, of Bushnell, and two brothers, Milton Stevens of Kansas, and Henry Stevens of Lawrence, Nebraska. There are also a number of grandchildren and many friends who will remember her beautiful life.
In early childhood Mrs. Culp joined the United Brethren church but many years ago transferred her membership to the Methodist Episcopal church and as long as health permitted was a faithful attendant. For six years she was stricken with blindness but during all that time she was a patient sufferer. For 58 years Mr. and Mrs. Culp had enjoyed their home together and now she has gone to her eternal home where the love of God abides and where there is no suffering or sorrow.
The funeral will be conducted from the home at 10 o'clock on Friday morning, being conducted by her pastor, Rev. H. M. Bloomer. The burial will be in the Bushnell Cemetery.
