Born in Detroit, MI, of a family of nine children, who's parents were Charles Augustus Denstaedt b. 4 Feb 1860, d. 6 July 1929 and Mary Rosamond Bagley b. 14 Feb 1864, d. 25 Mar 1943. Lived most of her life in the Traverse City, MI area after moving there in 1913 where she married and raise her family. An independent women who had to support herself after divorcing her husband in 1933 and find her place in life started buying and refurbishing houses, then reselling them long before many women ventured in such a field.

She is buried beside her favorite sister, Esther and brother-in-law, Michael Smith, who where always there to provide family support when needed.

Traverse City - Estelle M. Smith, 92 a homemaker, died Thursday at Grand Traverse Medical Care Facility.

She had grown up in the Traverse City Area and later moved to Detroit and Lansing, returning to Traverse city in 1954.She attended Grace Episcopal Church and enjoyed Flowers and the outdoors.


She was born in Detroit on March 20, 1893, to Charles and Rosamond (Bagley) Denstaedt.


Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Lester (Audrey) Meyer of New Port Richey, FL; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.


She is preceded in death by three brothers; five sisters; a daughter, Wynona Miller; two sons, Grover H. Wemple and Harmen Darwin Wemple; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Hibbard Funeral Chapel, Traverse City, with the Rev Thomas Stoll officiating. Burial will be in Williamsburg Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 7 to 9 Sunday evening. Memorials may be directed to the Grand Traverse Unit of the American Cancer Society.


Estelle was 21 and Harman 23 when they were married on August 12, 1914. Witnesses were Esther Denstaedt of Detroit (sister) and H. Anderson-Detroit. Married by Pastor Raymond M. Huston, pastor of Trumbull Ave, Presby. Church. Information taken from Certificate of Marriage.

Then wasting no time 2 months later married George Smith on July 3, 1952 in Angola, Steuben, Indiana. She divorced George at some point.


Estelle continued her man journey, but never married again.
