Laura was a direct descendant of John and Betty More's John line. She was the only child born to John Conover More and Helen Marr "Nellie" Hall More. She was raised at San Francisco, California where her father was a bookkeeper for Walter & Brooks, later G. F. Walters & Company. Her father was a liquor dealer at the time of his death in 1869 after which Laura and her mother resided at the home of George Wickware, a realtor, at San Francisco. Laura was first buried at Masonic Cemetery at San Francisco. Her remains were later moved to Woodlawn Memorial Park at Colma, California.
