Opera Singer. Real name Maria de Lourdes Lucia Antonia Pichot Gironés. Born in Catalunya, Spain, she made her 1902 debut in the title role of "Carmen" in Brussels, and became one of her era's best interpreters of Bizet's famous heroine. In 1906 she first appeared at Milan's La Scala, where she met the opera singer Zenatello, and they formed a partnership to promote promising young singers. Their most famous find was Lily Pons. Gay and Zenatello settled in Manhattan in 1936, where she lived the rest of her life.
