I am a native of Beaufort, South Carolina, and, in my mind, of Wilmington, North Carolina, where my parents grew up, I was born, and I spent summers on nearby Wrightsville Beach during the first 21 years of my life.

I attended the public schools of Beaufort through the ninth grade; boarding school for three years at Episcopal High School, Alexandria, Virginia; Davidson College (BA in History and Economics); University of Vienna, Austria, through the Institute of European Studies; Harvard Law School (JD), and Harvard Business School (Smaller Company Management Program).

I served in the United States Army Intelligence Corps as a counterintelligence officer in Washington, DC, and as a staff member in Washington of the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders.

I practiced law in Atlanta, Georgia, as a corporate and tax lawyer in what are now two of the largest law firms in the United States: King & Spalding and Alston & Bird. During this time I became involved in a number of small businesses in my hometown of Beaufort. They eventually demanded all of my time as owner/operator including First Carolina Bank, Beaufort Broadcasting Company (WBEU and WBEU-FM), Best Western Sea Island Inn, Rose Supply Company, Coastal Villages Press, Distant Island Company, and The Beaufort Tribune online newspaper.

In addition to my residence in Beaufort, SC, I have a summer home in Stonington on Deer Isle on the coast of Maine.

Now I am writing books for myself, publishing books for others, traveling, and hosting seminars in Vienna, Austria.

Educational degrees: Beaufort County Public Schools, Beaufort, SC, 1946-55; Episcopal High School, Alexandria, VA, 1955-58, diploma 1958; Davidson College, Davidson, NC, 1958-62, BA 1962; Harvard Law School, Cambridge, MA, 1964-67, LLB 1967 later changed by the university to JD degree)

Military service: Officer in US Army Intelligence Corps 1962-64; trained at Fort Benning, GA, and Fort Holabird, MD; assigned to 902d Intelligence Corps Group, Washington, DC, serving as South American desk officer in the Pentagon for U.S. Army Intelligence; resided in Georgetown, DC; at work when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, and attended his funeral at Arlington National Cemetery.

Married: Constance Claire Bowen of St. Louis, MO, July 2, 1966. She died of a rare form of cancer (neuroendocrine carcinoma) after a long illness on 21 August 2011.

Inscription

In loving memory, Constance Claire Bowen, George Graham Trask, and their family, Beaufort, South Carolina. My heart with pleasure fills and dances with the daffodils. (Daffodils are engraved on the stone. The Trask family had been in the commercial daffodil farming business for 50 years.)

Gravesite Details

Excellent condition. This is a traditional raised ledger in slate on a brick foundation engraved by hand by Nicholas Benson of The John Stevens Shop, Newport, Rhode Island, USA. Benson was awarded a MacArthur Genius Award in 2010 as a stonecutter.
