Pioneer Citizen Dies Suddenly Monday

George W Beard, a pioneer citizen of this section died suddenly in Arnett, on Monday of heart failure. Mr. Beard, has been in poor health for several days, but to all appearances was getting better, until discovered in his room in a dying condition at noon Monday.

Mr. Beard was born in Jay County, Indiana, May 28, 1849 and died at Arnett, Monday, August 13, 1917, at the age of 69 years, 2 months and 25 days. He was married to Emma Woolsey at Humboldt, Nebraska, 26 Aug 1871, and to this union was born two children, both of who are living.

Mr. Beard came to Ellis County about 15 years ago where he filed a claim south of Arnett, while here he has followed his trade as a painter and paper hanger.

He leaves two children, Eugene Beard of Billings, Montana, and Mrs. Albert Ballance of Pawnee City, NE; two sisters, Mrs. J.H. Smith of Humboldt, NE, and Mrs. May Chapman, of Dodge City, NE; two brothers, Thomas Beard of Tulsa, OK, and Levi Beard, of Forest City, IL, together with a hose of friends in this section to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were conducted at the Christian Church and the body laid to rest at the Debolt Cemetery.

The entire community joins with the Capital in extending sympathy to the bereave relatives and friends.
