Edward was the son of Edward James and Mary Ann (Martin) Ford. On August 4, 1936 he married Elizabeth Eckbold the daughter of William Benjamin and Elizabeth (Hadfield) Eckbold.
Edward was a bricklayer and worked for Local No. 33 of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasters' International Union of America. He retired in 1981 from the Sheriff's Department of Atlantic County, NJ. He was a member of the Atlantic Lodge No. 221 F&AM and a past master of the lodge. He belonged to the Shrine Crescent Temple and a charter member of the Legion of Honor of the Crescent Temple.
Edward was a World War II veteran serving a U.S. Navy SeaBee in Guadalcanal in the South Pacific.
He lived in Atlantic City, NJ; Pleasantville, NJ; Northfield, NJ and his last residence Gettysburg, PA. He moved to Gettysburg as he loved Civil War History.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Edward James Jr. and a daughter, Elizabeth Margaret wife of William C. Hewitt both of Northfield, NJ. Also two sisters, Esther Felsburg of Downingtown, PA and Thelma Kelly of Midland Park, NJ, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
