Last rites for Thomas Jefferson Herod, Sr., were held Tuesday afternoon at McCarley Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Jeffreys of Carrollton, the Rev. Norris Corley and the Rev. Winters of McCarley officiating. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery in Winona under the direction of Oliver Funeral Home.

Mr. Herod was born in Coila on February 26, 1877, the son of the late James Tucker and Elizabeth Henry Herod. He attended A. and M. College, now Mississippi State University. In 1908 he married Miss Hannchen Guenther and they have lived in McCarley since then. Since his retirement after serving thirty years as a mail carrier, Mr. Herod has been engaged in business as a real estate dealer. He was an active member of the McCarley Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 36 of Carrollton.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Herod leaves a daughter, Mrs. J V. Brock of Jackson; two sons, Thomas Jefferson Herod, Jr., of Winona and James Herod of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a sister, Mrs. J. Q. Smith of Isola; and two grandchildren.

Active pallbearers were Dewitt Hooks, Marion L. Felts, John T. Allen, Malcolm Bennett, J. V. Ferguson and Forrest McCrary.
