The date on his headstone (1889) is incorrect. He actually died in 1890. The "Holo" part of his name was the farm area in Norway where he was from. On 17 SEP 1866 in Rochester, MN he married Siri (Sarah) Halvorsen (Evenson).

He served during the Civil War as a Pvt in Companies "B" & "K", 1st Minn. Infantry. After the war he took to drinking. Unknown if he had what today is called PTSD from war truama. Likely he did. The town Sheriff would lock him up for 'failing to control his team' of horses (coming home from the local saloon). One morning upon awakening, he hung himself with his kerchief in his cell. Back then the cells were like boxes, made with iron bars on the top and all sides. It was just days before his wife gave birth to their 10th child.

His children:
Caroline
Helene
Thea
Emma
Thorvold
Oleah
Nils
Alma
