Local newspaper (Fillmore County, Minnesota) article regarding Hiram B Cutting -
"We are sorry to learn of the death of Sergt. H. B. Cutting, which occurred at Newburg, in this county, on the 26th of January last. Mr Cutting served with distinction in Co. A, 2nd Minnesota Infantry, and was admired by his comrades and those who knew him, for his kind disposition and general uprightness of character. His disease was, what the doctors term, quick consumption."
--------------------
Although the headstone says that the death date is Jan 24, 1872, the newspaper article & the Civil War pension papers for his wife, Mary Paulina Rowley Cutting, give his death date as Jan 26, 1872. The headstone was not ordered until 5 years after his death so it is likely that it has the incorrect date.
