He was the son of Martin Jasper Titus and Pauline Westlake Titus.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 8, 1960 after the USMA graduation ceremony as Charles M. Titus, he married Peggy J. Wiggins at the Cadet Chapel at West Point, New York.
They were the parents of two children.

Charles Martin Chuck Titus was born in Elmira, New York, one of five children of Martin Jasper Titus and Pauline Westlake Titus. In 1951, his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he attended high school. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the varsity football team. After high school, he joined the United States Army. While stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, he received an appointment to West Point and attended the United States Military Academy Preparatory School. He entered the Academy on July 3, 1956. He was the Secretary of the Class Committee, served on the Ring and Crest Committee, was a Chapel Acolyte and played varsity lacrosse. He was appointed as commander of the 2nd Regiment during First Class Year. He completed Ranger and Airborne training before being assigned to Fort Sill for the Field Artillery Basic Course. He was picked as the company executive officer for the course. His first assignment was with the 82nd Airborne Division Artillery at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, as a battery executive officer and then battery commander. He also was selected as the Lieutenant of the Year for the division artillery. After completing guerrilla warfare and Vietnamese language training, he was assigned as an advisor to a Vietnamese artillery battalion in Quang Ngai in May 1963. Next, he transferred to the Vietnamese Airborne Division, then transferred to the Infantry and attended the Infantry Officers Career Course at Fort Benning, where he was a distinguished graduate. He was assigned to 1st Battalion (Airborne), 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, to command A Company. On January 28, 1967, while on an operation in Phu Cat District, he was mortally wounded when a booby-trapped enemy pack which was brought to the command post by the soldier who found it exploded. After his first Viet Nam tour, he was awarded the Bronze Star, the Air Medal and several Viet Nam medals. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Legion of Merit. Survivors included his wife whom he married in the Cadet Chapel at West Point on graduation day and two sons. He was interred in the West Point Cemetery, with family, classmates, his former training cadre from Fort Dix and friends attending.
