Frank S. Cappuccio, 86, of Yosemite Valley Road, Westerly, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at The Westerly Hospital.
A lifelong resident of Westerly, he was born here on Dec. 7, 1914, and was the son of the late Antonio and Mary (Auletta) Cappuccio.
Mr. Cappuccio attended Westerly Schools, and graduated from Westerly High School. After high school, he attended and graduated from Providence College, and then he graduated from Boston University Law School in 1938 and was awarded the Degree LLB "cum laude."
Mr. Cappuccio was admitted to the Bar of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, he was also admitted to practice in the Rhode Island Federal District Court, the U.S. Federal Court of Connecticut, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, 1st District.
Mr. Cappuccio was in the Army for five years during WWII, where he served as a warrant officer in the Judge Advocate's Office, and then he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre in the Aleutian Islands.
After the war he resumed his practice of law at the firm of Cappuccio & Cappuccio, which he founded with his brother, Atty. Louis B. Cappuccio.
Mr. Cappuccio was active in the Westerly Democratic Party and the State of R.I. Democratic Party. He was former town solicitor and probate judge for Westerly.
He was named The Columbus Man of the Year, he was a life member of the Westerly B.P.O.E. and he was a communicant of St. Claire Church, Misquamicut.
Surviving are: two brothers: Atty. Louis B. Cappuccio, with whom he resided; Dr. Joseph P. Cappuccio of Towson, Maryland; two nephews, Atty. Louis B. Cappuccio Jr. and Atty. Lawrence Cappuccio, both of Westerly; and a niece, Mary Louise Suarez-Murias of Hunt Valley, Maryland.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ensign Patrick Cappuccio, who was killed in WWII.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at The Church of St. Claire, Misquamicut. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Sebastian Cemetary. There is no procession from the funeral home. Visiting hours at the Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home, 64 Friendship Street, Westerly, on Monday from 2 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to The St. Claire Building Fund, 4 St. Claire Way, Westerly, RI 02891.
