VIVIEN GEAN ALTMAN SANDERS
December 10, 1926 - October 17, 2022

Vivien Gean Steffey Altman Sanders, age 95, passed away on October 17, 2022. Vivien was born in Delmont, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on December 10, 1926, the youngest of nine children born to William Coonrad and Millie Mabel Pierce Steffey. Vivien was raised in Trees Mills, PA, a small rural community.
As a young woman, Vivien worked for the telephone company. She was proud of the part she played during WWII when she was assigned to Washington DC. Following the war, she returned home and worked for the Jeannette Glass Company. It was here that she caught the eye of George D. Altman. In 1947 they were married in Saltsburg, PA.
In 1954, with two young children, the family moved to California. Vivien resided in Bakersfield for sixty-eight years. She was a devoted grandmother, mother, and friend who brought joy (and baked goods) to everyone around her. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind heart. Vivien will be greatly missed by family and friends, but she is now in God's hands and at peace.
Vivien was preceded in death by husbands, George D. Altman (1980) and Harold H. Sanders (2000), her parents, William and Millie Steffey, and all of her siblings: brothers Boyd, Earnest, William, and Russell, and sisters Ruth Martz, Viola Neudorfer, Sylvia De Francis, and Mabel McCurdy.
Vivien is survived by her daughter Kathy (Terry) Walker, and her son, Gary Altman; four granddaughters, Alison Walker (Kevin Eustice), Lindsey (Eric) Hansen, Renee (Mickey) Wilcox, and Jessica (Kevin) Featherston; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Wilma Edra and the loving staff of The Trinity Care Home for their kind and compassionate care, as well as Bristol Hospice nurses for their kind loving care and support.
Graveside services will be held on October 27, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road.
