Thanks so much for posting the photo, Great Ceasar's Ghost. We had not been able to visit Springwater NY so this is VERY HELPFUL.

Erastus was a Jr. he moved to Springwater with his father Erastus A. Barber, a school teacher born in Windsor CT, lived in Orford, NH, and Erastus A.'s brother, Obediah. Our family has a record of his year of birth as 1797 but if you do the math from the headstone, his year of birth is 1798, but we both have April 14.

This Erastus was a surveyer and carpenter in Springwater. He married Lydia Rix April 17, 1817 and we have names in our family book from ancestors, of 9 children, not all of whom we could later track, in the order written in book: Lorenzo D (went to Wisconsin, then…?), Alfred P (went to Wisconsin, married Margaret McKay), Eliza M (she married David G. Smith of Springwater) Constantine Francis Volney (our ancestor married Delia Macomber, they stayed in the area), Twin 1, Twin 2 (not named), Jared R (Married Sarah Jane, believed stayed in the area), Erastus (the 3rd? not found in any other records) and William R (remained in Springwater, Civil War Vet, married Eliza).

I believe William R. in the cemetery, is his son. William R. in our family records, is b. about 1833, and through research and censuses, he seems to be the same, but I will leave him for his family.

Other family members who MIGHT be in this cemetery:

Erastus Barber (the elder) 1774-unknown (1820-1830)

Obediah Barber (1781-unknown, after 1815)

Lydia Barber nee Rix (1795-1888)

Rufus Rix (some spell it Ricks) (1857- unknown, possibly 1828 or later)

Lydia Rix nee ? wife of Rufus Rix, possibly Lydia M Rix (unknown - unknown)

Sylvester Rix, son of Rufus, Hannah Rix Lewis Rix, children of Rufus, lived in the area. James and Samuel, sons, unknown where they lived and died. Esther?
