Jack could give lessons on how two people can live together for almost 42 years and avoid any major disagreement – let Sarah have her way! Seriously, Jack was "cool" and he'd "take a drive" if ever there was a time of disagreement, then return with a loving spirit.
Sarah told Jack that if he hadn't been such a great dancer they'd probably never gotten together, but as it was, they danced their way through their first 2-3 years at the old Western Palms, then discovered the peace and contentment of quiet evenings at home. The children and grandchildren were perhaps his greatest joy. Two families melded together with love.
Sarah credits Jack with her salvation, bringing her to the Church of Christ. Many people may not know that Jack was a dedicated Lord's servant, always willing to be a stand in preacher, teacher, custodian or whatever needed to be done in the years at the Bishop and Flour Bluff congregations. As age crept up, Jack was a faithful member of the Kings Crossing Church of Christ. Even though his kidney failure, etc. kept him from services, he asked Sarah to read the Bible each evening while sitting at the kitchen table and, in spite of the dementia he was experiencing, he never lost his ability to offer a beautiful prayer. And on Sundays he was always interested to see the church Bulletin and when Sarah could figure out the computer, he would even get to watch Mark's sermons.
Jack's service to the community involved being President of the Northwest Business Association, Rotarian, VP or the Corpus Christi Chamber where he led the charge to create a Crimestopper program for Corpus Christi.
Lest we forget, his CB handle was Country Boy and he was most often seen either with a Stetson on his head and boots on his feet or living up to his reputation as a fisherman.
A beloved, gentle, kind person so sorely to be missed.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Kings Crossing Church of Christ, 5901 Yorktown Blvd., with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
