Eldest of four children. Married to wife, Nelda, over twelve years. Father of two. Stepfather of three. Grandfather. Outdoorsman.

One of the six lost in the August 6, 2007 cave-in at the Crandall Canyon Mine near the town of Huntington, in Emery, Utah. Search for the men was abandoned after a 25 day vigilant effort that took three rescuers lives. The 1,500 foot mine shaft became the six originally trapped men's tomb.

He was born March 20, 1957, in Price, Utah, to Erick and Lucille Erickson.
Don married Dalene Swanson in March, 1976, and later divorced. Together, they had two sons, Brandon and Brian. He then married the love of his life, Nelda Hardman Olsen, on December 9, 1989, in Price.
He was a life-long resident of Carbon County and a graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1975.
Don was coal miner for several mines in the area. He drove semi-truck for several companies, Darrel Taylor, out of Roosevelt, Tenn., Jensen's, Price, and Savage in Wellington. He also drove for Helper Auto in Helper for many years as a store manager and a tow truck operator, which he enjoyed.
His love for the outdoors took him camping, four-wheeling, going for drives, boating, fishing, and playing in the mud with his Jeep. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and rooting for his favorite driver, Matt Kenseth. Don also liked spending quality time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all of his loved ones.
Don is survived by wife, Nelda Erickson, Helper; his little buddy Rocky, his sons Brandon, Brian, Kevin and Cody Olsen, daughter Amanda and eight beautiful grandchildren, his parents, Erick and Lucille Erickson, brothers Terry Erickson, Rick, and sister Gaylene.
Memorial services were held Friday, Sept 14th, 2007, at the Helper Auditorium, 19 S Main, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
