It is almost certain that Johanna was born on the family farm in Kenyon Township, Goodhue County. She was the daughter of Peder Anonby and Sophie Lien. She grew up on the farm and married Julius Kyllo, a boy from a neighboring farm. They attended Hegre Church together. Goodhue County marriage records says the marriage of Julius Kyllo and Johanna Anonby was on December 28, 1898 at Mr. Anonby's house, in Kenyon Township. Soon after the marriage, Julius bought Peder's farm, and Peder bought his father-in-law's farm in Dodge County.

Julius and Johanna had seven children. Julius died on November 18, 1947. Johanna, who was known as Mum, lived on the farm until just before she died on June 27, 1964. Johanna had been born in the farm house and married there, she lived in that same house until a few days before her death, when she was taken to a hospital in Faribault, Minnesota. Julius and Johanna are both buried at the Hegre Church Cemetery.
