He was born Oct. 21, 1924, at Ottawa, Kansas to Leonard and Margaret (Kesting) Allen.
He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1942. He then attended Kemper Military Academy, Boonville, Mo.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a first lieutenant. He was a navigator on B-29 aircraft and received the Air Medal, "For Meritorious Achievement while Participating in Aerial Flight" established in 1942 for service in the Pacific.
He was a Missouri State University basketball fan and a St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.
He married Joan Weien Jan. 16, 1943. She survives.
Survivors also include daughters, Stephanie Jones, and her husband, Bob, North Manchester, Ind., Susan Simon, and her husband, Ralph, Atlanta, Ga., and Saundra Carlson and her husband, Nathan, Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Dorothy Angelos, and her husband, Mychal, Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, Heidi Hartman, Keith Carlson, Eric Jones, Wendy Pfeiffer, Robyn Jones, Christopher Simon and Chad Simon; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Allen.
Private family burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.
