Sister Filomena D'Ambrosio, MPF, 89 died Tuesday Sept 4th 2007, in the St Joseph Hall Infirmary, Villa Walsh, Morristown, NJ. Born in Rochester, NY Sister entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1937. She received the habit in 1938 and made her religious profession in 1941. She earned a diploma in elementary education from Villa Walsh Normal School, a BS degree in elemantary education and a MA degree in special education from Seton Hall University. As an elementary school teacher, she taught in St. Ann School, New York City, St Anthony School, Dunmore Pa. Holy Redeemer School, Cleveland Ohio. Our Lady of Sorrows School and Holy Rosary School both in Jersey City, Most Holy Rosary School Perth Amboy, St Bartholomew School Scotch Plains,NJ and St Rocco School, Newark NJ. Sr. served the community as a local superior and as school principal. She was employed for 37 years as a teacher and principal by the Mt. Carmel Guild in Newark. She resided at Mt. Carmel Convent, Newark and at St. Joseph Convent, East Orange. In 1970 she founded the St. Patrick School for Special Education in Newark and served as its principal for 26 years. In 1993 she received the Employee of the Year Award from Catholic Community Services. Sister also volunteered for three years at the Senior Day Center of the Mt. Carmel Guild and at St Mary's Life Center, Orange NJ. In the year 2000, illness caused her to enter the St. Joseph Hall Infirmary at Villa Walsh, where she spent her last years. Sister Filomena was predeceased by six brothers, John, Joseph, Samuel, Dominic, Andrew and Peter. She is surived many neices and nephews. She was a faithful daughter of St. Lucy Filippini.
