Obituary from the Lucas-Sylvan News, 17 Jun 1971, p. 5 col 1--Royal J. Handley--Royal J. (Hap) Handley was born June 29, 1885 in Brown county, Kansas. Hap was one of twelve children and all are deceased now with the exception of two sisters.
Hap was married to Lillie Spalding Mason on Jan 1, 1929. She preceded him in death on June 20, 1964.
Survivors include: the two sisters; Mrs. Irene Layton of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Tessa Turner of Boise, Idaho; two step-sons, Monte Mason of Denver, Colo., and Clark Mason of California.

Same paper, page 1, col 2.--Royal J. (Hap) Handley, a resident of Lucas, died Sunday, June 13th, at Lucas. Funeral services were Tuesday, June 15, from the Wesley U. M. Church in Lucas with Rev Raymond Curry officiating. Burial was in the Lucas cemetery.
