Mary Lou Carothers was born August 30, 1945 in Quinter, Kansas, daughter of Adolph and Celestina "Sally" (Rome) Rohr. She graduated from Moreland High School in Moreland, Kansas.

On June 22, 1968, Mary was united in marriage with John Carothers in St. Peter, Kansas. This union was blessed with two daughters, Tamara and Kendra. The family made their home in Anthony, Kansas.

Mary was a homemaker, John's helper when he needed it, and stay at home mom until the girls were older. She then went to work for Farm Bureau and later Freeport State Bank before retiring.

Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, of the St. Joan of Arc Parish. She was very active in the church. She volunteered in many capacities including the Altar Guild preparing and serving funeral dinners, as a Eucharistic Minister and enjoyed helping decorate the church.

Mary enjoyed many activities with family and friends. She bowled on league, enjoyed ladies night golf, and golfing with John, even though she felt bad about winning all the time. At home she was always cooking (especially her famous poppy seed bread), reading or cross stitching. She valued time with her friends whether it be going to dinner, playing cards, or morning coffee with the ladies.

After her husband, John, Mary's greatest love was her daughters and her grandchildren. She was a devoted, loving mother and grandmother, always being there for them. She truly cherished the special bonds she held with each one.

On July 29, 2020, Mary passed away peacefully in Wichita, Kansas with her family by her side, at the age of 74. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: Dora Haughn, Don Rohr, and Neyla Kippes.
