Nan Dorsey Rand died peacefully in Charlotte, NC on June 8, 2017. She was born in Henderson KY on September 15, 1928 to Bessie Baskett Dorsey and John Lloyd Dorsey. She was a valedictorian of Henderson County High School and graduated from the University of Indiana at Bloomington after studying for her first two years at Randolph-Macon Women's College. She worked as an illustrator before marrying her husband of 51 years, Julian A Rand, Jr. and relocating with his career from Louisville, KY to Winston-Salem, NC in 1967. As a homemaker and mother, she pursued her enthusiasms for tennis, gardening, bridge, and her faith. In addition to other volunteer roles including Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity, she devoted enormous love and energy to her family. We are grateful for her life of 88 years. Her courage and optimism in her later years were inspiring.
