Funeral Services Thursday For Dr. George Baskervill

Funeral services for one of Greenwood's oldest active physicians, Dr. George Baskervill will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday from the Church of the Nativity with the Rev. Jones Hamilton officiating. Interment will be in Winona Cemetery.

Dr. Baskervill, a specialist in internal medicine and obstetrics, died at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Tuesday. Wilson and Knight Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dr. Baskervill was born in Mecklenburg County Va. in 1877. He was the son of Dr. Robert D. and Bettie (Alexander) Baskervill. His father was a noted physician and surgeon with an international reputation for whom the town of Baskervill, Va. was named.

Dr. Baskervill was educated in Mecklenburg County Rural School. He received his B.S. degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute; He attended the University of Virginia and received his medical degree from Tulane University. He held a license to practice medicine in Louisiana and Mississippi.

He began his practice in 1901 when he engaged in general and private practice in Winona and served as surgeon to Illinois and Central and Columbus and Greenville Railway Co. in Winona; He established the Winona Infirmary in 1906.

He served as a major in the medical corps during World War I.

Since 1919 he has been in private practice in Greenwood where he was a member of the Greenwood Leflore Hospital medical staff; He is a Fellow of American Medical Association; Member of the Delta Medical Association, and is past president of Mississippi State Medical Association and Southern Medical Association.

He was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity where he served as a vestryman and warden for more than 30 years.

He was a Mason, Shriner, a member of the Elks Club and Kappa Sigma social fraternity.

During his lifetime he was an avid hunter and enjoyed fine horses and fox hunting.

Dr. Baskervill made his home at the Irving Hotel.

He is survived by 13 nieces and nephews.
