Janice M. Galas 74, of Peru, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Funeral services will be 9:30 am Thursday, July 1 at the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru followed by Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church, Peru with Rev. William Gardner, Pastor officiating. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 pm Wednesday with Liturgical prayers at 4:45 pm at the funeral home.

Jan was born May 17, 1936 in Peru to Leonard and Mary (Mathieson) Benvenuti. She married James Galas on June 1, 1957 at St. Mary's Church Peru. Her family owned and operated Mooney's Luna Nova for almost 60 years. She was active in real estate for 36 years, spending most of her career as a broker with Janko Realty. She served as Board President, Vice President, and was on the Board of Directors for the Illini Valley Association of Realtors. She was voted Realtor of the Year on two occasions. Jan held both CRS and GRI designations and was recently voted Number One Realtor in the News Tribune Readers Choice for 2010. Jan was also an election judge for LaSalle County and City of Peru for 12 years. She volunteered for many years on IVCH Home Health Board and sponsored numerous fundraisers for the Arthritis Foundation including the Luna Nova Pig Roasts. She was proud to have donated nearly 12 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. She most enjoyed attending her grandchildren's athletic and academic activities and playing cards with her friends.

She is survived by her husband: James; three daughters: Cindy (Rick) Halko of Salem, WI; Cheri (Jon) Faletto of Morton; and Christine (Jerry) Schweickert of Peru; a son: Jim (Donna) Galas of Batavia; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Donna Visione of Peru and Karen (Craig) Meyer of Tallahassee, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
