Carrie was born Oct. 26, 1976, in Galesburg the daughter of Jean Carley and Rex Combs. She married Michael J. Smith at Corpus Christi Catholic Church Galesburg on Aug. 30, 2003.
Carrie was the beloved wife of Michael Smith for almost 17 years. She was the loving daughter of Jean Carley including her special Aunt Sherry Carley. And she was also a devoted "dog mom" to Princess and Heath.
Carrie graduated from Galesburg High School in 1994. She received her bachelor's degree in sociology from Western Illinois University in 1998 and her Master's Degree in Human Resources & Industrial Relations from the University of Illinois Champagne-Urbana in 2000. Carrie's career first took her to Cleveland, where she met her future husband, Michael. A short work stint then took both to Los Angeles, until they moved to the Detroit area in 2001, ultimately settling in Royal Oak.
Beyond her day-to-day work, Carrie loved serving as a mentor to many of those who crossed her path. Outside of work, she was also a consultant with 31 Gifts for 10 years and loved it - she threw many parties and especially loved the social aspect. Carrie also loved to travel, especially to the West Coast.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 8, 2020, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tom Smith officiating.
