Tallahassee - Mary Carol Abner, passed peacefully at a blessed and amazing age of 100 years on Saturday, July 25, 2020. Mary Carol was a 1939 graduate of Lincoln High School in Manatee (Bradenton), FL, and earned both her bachelors and masters degrees in Elementary Education from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University in 1946 and 1948, respectively. She taught at Stevens Elementary in Quincy, FL; Concord Elementary (Miccosukee); and Bond Elementary before retiring in 1980. Mrs. Abner, a faithful and active member of Bethel A.M.E. Church for more than 70 years, was a passionate and exemplary educator.

She was preceded in death by her life-long companion and loving husband of 74 years, Hodges Abner, and is survived by her doting and devoted daughter Hodgetta A. Huckaby; loving granddaughters, Jamye Brown and Jamelle Pruden; two brothers, Waymon Armstead, Sr. and Larry Bowen; 3 great-grandchildren, Myles Brown, Kynne Pruden, and Keon Pruden; 4 dedicated care-givers; and a host of family and friends.

Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 6, 2020 at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Abner's honor, may be made to the Bethel A.M.E. Church School and/or Beta Delta Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Scholarship Fund.

Due to the on-going COVID-19 guidelines, face-masks and social distancing are required.
