Graveside services for Linda Abbott, age 73, of Hartington, Nebraska will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2020, at Bloomfield City Cemetery. Elders Richard Halbgewachs, Don Halbgewachs, and Mark Hatcher will officiate.

Social distancing guidelines will be followed.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Nebraska.

Linda Kay (Halbgewachs) Abbott was born August 22, 1946, to Harold Victor and Edith Marie (Bybee) Halbgewachs in Norfolk, Nebraska and departed this life at her home in Hartington on August 2, 2020.

She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and was a devoted and loving wife and mother.

Linda grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and Cozad, Nebraska. As a youth, Linda was involved in many school activities. She graduated from Sharyland High School in Mission, Texas in 1964. She received a BA in education from Kearney State College in 1969, with a major in Vocational Home Economics and a minor in Art.

Linda briefly taught home economics and art in Valentine, Nebraska before marrying Ivan Abbott on January 24, 1970. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

She was the secretary in the family business of PV Welding and Repair for 30 years, sold Saxton Fruit for 27 years, was dietary manager of the Embers Assisted Living of Coleridge, and a member/officer of the Help Your Neighbor Club of Pleasant Valley.

Linda loved flowers, gardening, singing, sewing, canning, decorating cakes, making jelly, cookies, sweet rolls, traveling, fishing, and camping. Throughout her life, she remained active in all aspects of her church and loved entertaining church brethren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Halbgewachs; mother, Edith (Bybee) Halbgewachs; father-in-law, John Abbott; mother-in-law, Ima (Troxel) Abbott; sister, Myrna (Halbgewachs) Loibl; brothers-in-law, Tom Oldfather, Kenneth Abbott, Dean Peterson, and Allan Loibl; sister-in-law, Aleda (Abbott) Peterson; nieces, Ellen Forsma, Julie Halbgewachs, and Alberta Abbott; nephews, Jamie Abbott, David Abbott, Craig Abbott, Kim Peterson, and Kelly Peterson.

Linda is survived by her husband, Ivan John Abbott; daughter, Ivy (Mark) Folkers of Randolph; son, Doug (Mandy) Abbott of Hershey, Nebraska; daughter, Rebecca (Bryce) Jorgenson of Orleans, Nebraska; daughter, Angela (Shawn) Warner of Shelton, Nebraska; son, Kirk Abbott of Grand Island, Nebraska; 14 grandchildren; brothers, Howard (Cynthia), Elder Donnie (Barbara), Elder Richard (Charlotte), and Victor (Elaine) Halbgewachs; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald (Sharon) Abbott, Dorothy Oldfather, and Dawn Abbott; and many nieces and nephews.
