He was born Nov. 5, 1909 in Knight, the son of George and Nancy Ann Baxter Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was a logger, a veteran of the U.S. Army and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Elyzer Murphy of San Augustine; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Taylor and husband Billy Ray of San Augustine, Betty Nash of San Augustine, and Lou Kennemer and husband Jerry of San Augustine; sisters, Stella Hamsley of Shepherd, Dovie Hickman of Shepherd and Berniece Murphy of Livingston; 12 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
