Martha Alice Christine Saenz, 69, died on Sunday, March 8, 2015, at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehab Center. Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. Private Graveside services.

Martha Alice Christine Saenz, the daughter of Marvin and Ruby (Tammen) Nielsen, was born on December 7, 1945, in Sibley, Iowa. She was a graduate of the North High School in Des Moines.

Over the years, Martha was employed in Des Moines at the Younker's Tea Room, took care of older gentlemen in North Dakota, and lived and helped in the kitchen at the Jasper County Care Facility.

She enjoyed playing the accordion and always wanted to be on the Lawrence Welk Show.

Martha was a member of Red Rubee and Adventurous Babe. She had a great love for animals and loved to ask people to come over coffee. Martha was a loving and caring person and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Mark Grush; and a sister, Sharron Meyer.

Survivors include her son, Tom Sturgill; six grandchildren; sister, Patricia (Steve) Putz; brother, John (Jerri) Grush; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend Neil.
