"MARCUS S. COOPER
Independence - Marcus S. Cooper, 72 died at his home on Route 1, Independence, Friday morning. He had bee in ill healthy several months. He was born Oct. 15, 1886 in Wasco County, Oregon, near John Day.
Cooper had lived in the local area for 50 years, where he farmed and followed the trade of carpenter. Many of the Independence homes were constructed by Cooper.
On Sept. 11, 1915, he was married to Helen Larsen at Salem, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Muriel Bathelder and Mrs. Virginia Mohatt, both of Salem. There are three brothers, Lyn at Toppenish, Wash., Armine A., Corvallis, and George at Monmouth.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 o'clock from Smith-Krueger mortuary in Independence, with burial in Hill Top Cemetery."
