KNOXVILLE -- Johnnie F. "Butch" Parton Jr., 48, of 702 E. North St. died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 1996, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

Born July 13, 1948, in Galesburg to Johnnie F. Sr. and Betty Jane Stinson Parton, he married Candy Clarke on March 16, 1968, in Knoxville. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother of Wataga; one sister, Jacqueline Cecil of Knoxville; and two brothers, Donald of Knoxville and Ronald of Loxahatchee, Fla. His father preceded him in death.

He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving in the Navy and Army. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2257 in Galesburg and Harry Philblad American Legion Post 749 in Knoxville.

He was a supervisor at Protexall in Galesburg.

He was a den leader, scoutmaster and Webelo leader in Boy Scouts in the Knoxville and Galesburg areas. He was a member of the Boy Scout District Committee, serving as district commissioner.

He was active at Fellheimer Scout Camp near Knoxville. He received the Builders Award for his work in scouting from Pacific Masonic Lodge 66, AF&AM. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Knoxville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville. The Rev. David G. Hultberg will officiate. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by his VFW post.
