Service for Carl John Chick, 71, former secretary-treasurer of R.A. Pearson Co., will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.


Mr. Chick died Saturday at his home.


The son of John O. and Bessie B. (Abrams) Chick, he was born in the Crescent area northwest of Spokane. He lived in Spokane most of his life and attended North Central High School.


In business 45 years, he started as office manager for the American Medical Life Insurance Co. (now Occidental Life). In 1939 he became chief accountant for Golden Age Brewery, and after its sale to Bohemian Brewery, was office manager until its sale to Reinhardt Brewery of Portland.


In 1962, Mr. Chick supervised demolition of the brewery, which had been a landmark since the early 1900s at Second and Cedar.


Mr. Chick was office manager and secretary-treasurer of R.A. Pearson Co., a packaging equipment firm, from 1963 to 1975, and remained a member of the board of directors.


He was a member of Sundance Golf Club and Inland Empire Dahlia Society.


Survivors include his wife, Laura M. Chick, at the home; one daughter, Joan Muir of Spokane; one sister, Edna Reimers of Spokane; and two brothers, Walter W. Chick and Clyde A. Chick, both of Nine Mile Falls.
