R. L. "Pete" V Bryan, 98, of Phx, died June 9, 2001.
He was born on August 2, 1902 in El Reno, Oklahoma.
He is the beloved son of Soule and Sallie Bryan, brother to Jack and Ernest Bryan and Annie Martin, father to Katherine Williams who proudly served in the South Pacific during World War II and Jimmie Bryan only Phoenician to win Indianapolis 500, all have preceded him in death.
This fine man is survived by his granddaughters, Cindi Bryan of Phx and Stephanie Bryan Schnettler and her husband Ken of Peru, IN; great-grandsons, Chris Vaughan of Fort James, CA and Robert Vaughan of Kokomo, IN and a surrogate granddaughter and her son, Debbie and Ben Pierson.
Pete, who was named after the family mule due to his stubbornness, started collecting soda bottles at an early age. In his teenage years, he raced and repaired motorcycles.
He then went to baking school in Chicago to refine his baking skills, and there he mastered the art of pastries. From there he went to drive for Shell Oil Company where he was the recipient of numerous safety awards.
He then went to work for Goodyear Aircraft as Firechief, moving to assistant fire chief for the Metropolitan Fire Dept. and then retired.
He then went to work for the AZ Highway Dept., where he was a equipment man #3 until 1968 when he retired to enjoy his many friends and life for the next 33 years.
Poppy will be missed and thought of everyday by each life, he touched.
Visitation, 6-8PM, Thursday, June 14th Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St, Phx AZ 85020. Services will be held 11 AM, Friday, June 15th at Hansen Chapel.
