June 10, 1938, in Orange, New Jersey. He was the second of two
children born unto this union. Claude is predeceased by his older brother
Nicodemus (Nick) Willie Barnes.
Claude was educated in the Orange Public Schools. He then enlisted in
the United States Marines Corp. where he served his tour of duty at Camp
Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
In June 1960 Claude married Florence A. Smith. This union bore five
children: Dwayne, Roxanne, Darren, Tracy and Claude, Jr.
Claude was a faithful member of the Imani Baptist Church of Christ, in
East Orange, New Jersey. He actively participated in Bible Discovery,
Sunday School, Wisdom's Children and Sunday Morning Worship
Services.
In his leisure Claude loved fishing, reading, watching cowboy movies
and was a self-proclaimed "Political Junkie." Before retiring he was
truck driver, which included the cross country operation of eighteen
wheel rigs.
Claude departed this life on August 4, 2017. His memory will be forever
cherished by his children: Dwayne, Roxanne, Darren, Tracy, and Claude,
Jr.; his grandchildren: Neijah Muhammad, Ayanna Barns, Ahmand
Muhammad, India, Mekki and Ayla Brown, Joy McMiller; his stepchildren:
Sharyle and Marques McMiller; his former wife Florence
Barnes; his long-time companion Carol McMiller; his nephews; Harold,
Ronnie and Mark Barnes; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins
among them devoted cousins Joan Mazyk, Shirley Johnson, and other
family and friends.
