Alta B. O'Donnell Abicht

Alta O'Donnell Abicht passed from this life on August 13, 2020.

She was born to Mike and Marie (Stark) O'Donnell on a farm outside of Olney, IL on December 17, 1917.

After graduating from high school, she graduated from business college in St. Louis, MO, majoring in business administration.

She returned home to work at the 1st National Bank in Olney.

She then met and married W.E. Dyson and moved to Cambridge. She remained there for the remainder of her life, raising their two girls and joining her husband in his real estate business.

In the 1940's she volunteered at Fletcher General Hospital typing confidential medical records and became a Grey Lady, working on the wards.

When Fletcher became Cambridge State Hospital, she continued volunteering there. In the 1980's she continued her volunteer work at Guernsey Memorial Hospital & Southeastern Medical Center. She was honored as volunteer of the year in 2012. At that time she had put in over 23,000 volunteer hours since the 1980's.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Dyson Brown and Zeta Dyson (Jack) Warne; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; one sister Margaret Yates and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Private services will be held by the family with burial in Northwood Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Guernsey or to Pound Dog Partners, Guernsey County.
