Valerie A Thatcher, 64, died August 21, 2020. She was born August 26, 1955, the daughter of Roy and Helen (Rock) Cowing. She grew up and attended school in Clay Center. She married Charlie Mellies in 1973 and they later divorced. She married Jim Thatcher, Sr. in 1977 and they later divorced. Valerie worked for Gentronics, Yellow Brick Enterprises and Key Milling. She also worked as a cook and waitress for Mac’s, the Suzy Q and the Clay Center Sale Barn. She met her companion, Bill Petersen in 1998 and he survives. Valerie was a member of the Clay Center Eagles Lodge. She also enjoyed shopping at garage sales, playing Bingo and helping other people and animals, especially dogs. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Dennis and Brian Sutherland and sister, Rosemary Gonser.
