Jacob Fite was the third son of Leonard Fite and Margareth Cross. He was born in Allen Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania Nov 29, 1786. He was taken by his parents, while an infant, to Lincoln County, North Carolina and then on to Tennessee nine years later. When grown Jacob Fite lived on his own plantation in Wilson County, Tennessee, where he dispensed a generous hospitality until the breaking out of the Civil War. He was married November 29, 1810 to Matilda Beard of North Carolina.

At the time of the mother's (Peggy Fite) one hundredth birthday celebration, in 1861, Jacob Fite and Matilda Beard had eight living children and fourteen grandchildren.

He was a member of
the Methodist Episcopal Church forty-nine years, and died December 5, 1870.
