Thomas James Milam, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at his home in Melbourne, Fla., after a brief illness. He was born in 1922 in Guntown. He was a graduate of Tupelo High School, where he played baseball. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. An officer, he commanded a B-29 Superfortress in the Pacific Theater, including missions over Japan. In 1950 he became a route salesman for Malone & Hyde Inc. food distributors. He later served as sales manager and president/general manager of the Nashville, Tenn., Lexington, Ky., and Miami, Fla., divisions. After retiring in 1987, he and a son founded Milam's Market in Coral Gables, Fla. He moved to Melbourne, Fla., in 1995. He was a past director of the Florida Senior Golf Association.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pineda Presbyterian Church in Melbourne, Fla. Burial will be in Florida Memorial Gardens. Florida Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home of Rockledge, Fla., is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joan Gunner Milam; 10 children, Tom Jr., Milton and Robert, all of Nashville, Tenn., John of Knoxville, Tenn., Allen of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Mike of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Bill of Plantation, Fla., Max of Davie, Fla., Joan of Jacksonville, Fla., and Marie of Miami, Fla.
