Mrs. Babcock worked at Great American supermarket and Walmart department store. She enjoyed watching movies, playing cards, gardening, reading, cooking and snaring her recipes.
Born Aug. 18, 1938, in Gouverneur, daughter of Alan T. and Margaret Hance Hillis, she attended Gouverneur schools and received a general equivalency diploma. She married Otis Gilbert "Gib" Babcock Sr. on May 31, 1975 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stanley F. Brown. officiating. A previous marriage ended in divorce.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters and their husbands, Charlene and Dennis Wells, Rockmart, Ga., and Robin and Michael Sweeney, Gouverneur; a son, Thomas Reynolds, Fulton; two stepsons and their wives, Tim and Kelley Babcock, Watertown, and Otis G. 'Mike" Jr. and Janet Babcock, Calcium; a stepdaughter and her husband, Cindy and Robert Brown, Watertown; two brothers Robert Hillis, Sodus, and Charles Hillis, Elmira; a sister Mary Ellen Carmen, Philadelphia, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A stepson, James A. Babcock, died Dec. 15, 1993.
