William C. Sullivan, age 95, passed away on Aug 26, 2020, at the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke, surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on Oct 13, 1924, to the late Eugene and Mary (Hanifin) Sullivan. Bill was a WWII Army Veteran and, upon being discharged, he dedicated himself to public service. He became a State Representative, Springfield City Clerk, and then the 48th Mayor of Springfield from 1973 – 1977. He also was a founding partner of Sullivan, Keating, and Moran Insurance Agency. Bill was very involved in community events, a few being the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic, the First Friday Prayer Breakfast and the annual John F. Kennedy remembrance ceremony at the eternal flame at Forest Park. He was an active member of Holy Cross Parish and received an honorary degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms. Bill was a huge sports enthusiast and proud of attending World Series games in Boston and 24 NCAA Final Four Championships. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, both at "Club 71" and Amherst Cove in Naples, FL. Bill leaves three daughters, Mary Beth Harrell and her husband Larry of Cape May Court House, NJ, Patty Brunault and her husband Peter of Palmer, and Kathy Kerrigan and her husband Pat of Falls Church, VA; one brother, Jimmy Sullivan of Springfield; four grandchildren, Lauren Brunault, Molly Hirschegger and her husband Karl, Mike Kerrigan and his wife Laura, and Shannon Kerrigan; and one great grandchild, Otto Hirschegger. He was predeceased by three brothers, Thomas, John, and Gene. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke for the care they gave Bill, especially the staff of 4 West.
