Botanist. Father Schoener was a world recognized pioneer in rose hybridization who created a rose with a very black sheen called 'Oliver Wendell Holmes' and rose trees that were 25 feet tall which bore roses 8 inches in diameter. He is accredited with developing 236 roses. Many of his rose creations are registered with the American Rose Society and still available through specialty rose breeders.
