Mr. Charles Franklin Birchfield, Jr., age 83, of Corydon, Indiana entered this life on May 29, 1937. He was the son of the late Charles Franklin, Sr. and Clara Pepperman Birchfield. He was raised in Madison by his step father, Samuel L. Ashcraft and his mother, Clara Pepperman Birchfield Ashcraft and was of the Baptist faith. He was united in marriage to Bertha Jean Eggenspiller on November 16, 1968. This union was blessed with one son, Charles Joseph, Jr. He was inducted into the United States Navy on February 14, 1956 and was honorably discharged on July 30, 1959. They lived in El Paso from January 1978 to 2013 and he was employed as a custodian with the El Paso Independent School District. They moved to Columbus in 2013 and then to Corydon in 2016. He enjoyed collecting hot wheels, especially fire trucks and old cars. Charles died on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at 5:15 a.m. at the Indian Creek Nursing Home in Corydon, Indiana.
A LOVING FAMILY
Charles will be missed by his loving son, Charles Joseph Birchfield of Hardinsburg, Kentucky; his brothers, Raymond L. Birchfield of Greenwich, Connecticut, Rodger J. Birchfield of Indianapolis, Indiana; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Franklin Birchfield, Sr., his mother, Clara Pepperman Birchfield Ashcraft, died March 26, 2003, his step father, Samuel L. Ashcraft, died March 20, 1999.
FUNERAL CEREMONY & MILITARY HONORS
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, September 4, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road Madison, Indiana.
VISITATION
Friends may visit Friday from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana.
